The XCT 2000 pQCT (Norland Stratec) bone densitometer is a x-ray device made for making quantitative measurements of the bone mineral density (BMD) in a peripheral part of the body. The pQCT densitometer measures volumetric bone mineral density and cross sectional bone dimensions. The equipment is used for selective measurement of cortical and trabecular density, bone area, cortical area, cortical thickness, periosteal and endosteal circumference, muscle cross-sectional area and biomechanical strain strength indices. The device is suitable for small animal scanning, both ex vivo and in vivo.
